Kharkiv Academic Puppet Theater named after V. A. Afanasyev became one of the laureates of the Michael Nyqvist Foundation Award in Stockholm.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
Michael Nyqvist Foundation Award annually recognises artists in the acting community, “people who share Michael`s spirit and conviction that acting can bring people together”. The winners are selected by the foundation’s board members and previous winners. The award ceremony takes place in Sweden in November. The prize statue is designed by Michaels daughter, Ellen Nyqvist.
“Kharkiv State Puppet Theatre performs in ways that touch and engage, that crosses boundaries and unites people. With a firm belief in the healing power of the arts, the Kharkiv State Puppet Theater has despite the difficult situation in the city and despite the constant shelling of the Russian army during spring and summer of 2022 managed to conduct performances for children and adults. With an indomitable optimism for the future and hope for peace, these performances have been presented in subways, in hospitals, and other temporary places where people gathered,” describes the “Motivation by the board” on the award`s official website.
Earlier this month, Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko received the Stanisław Vincenz Prize of the Krakow City Council.
