UKRAINE, Sep. 8 — Ukraine develops a new air defense system, which is already intercepting Russian Banderol missiles, said the Brave1 Defense Technology Cluster.

The Banderol is a small Russian-made missile with a range of up to 500 kilometers (~311 miles). Such a missile can fly at low altitude, which allows it to remain undetected.

 Russia first used Banderols in its attack on Ukraine in May 2025. In 2026, they also conducted the first Banderol attack on Kharkiv.

According to Brave1, a new Ukrainian air defense system can intercept and track Banderol missiles until they are destroyed.

Brave1 added that the cost of the unnamed intercepting weapon is lower than the cost of the Banderol missile itself.

They also said that Ukraine is expanding its innovation efforts to counter new Russian threats, and that this is not the only system capable of countering Banderol missiles. Ukrainian air defense is also working to counter Russian jet-powered drones.
