UKRAINE, Sep. 2 — Modernized jet fighter MiG-29 downed Banderol missile on the critically low altitude with a P-60 missile, reported Telegram-channel “Soniashnyk,” connected to Ukrainian aviation. They also posted a video of a Ukrainian pilot’s combat mission during this interception. 

“Every flight and every launch is a thought-through decision. When the enemy has a technical advantage, it’s mastery and bravery that can oppose it.” 

P-60 is a Soviet-made small-range air-to-air missile equipped with an infrared seeker that detects the thermal radiation from mobile targets in the air. The Ukrainian Air Force started using them when the stock of the newer P-73 missiles Ukraine used to down missiles and Shaheds dried out. 

Russia scales up its manufacture of Banderol missiles, also called S8000, that can achieve the speed of up to 620-650 km/hour (385-403 mph). 

They usually launch it from air carriers, like the Orion drone, and Banderol can fly up to 500 km (~310 miles). They fly at critically low altitudes, making it hard for Ukraine’s air defenses to detect and intercept.
