UKRAINE, Sep. 2 — The 14th Army Corps denied Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims of capturing Kozacha Lopan in the north of Kharkiv region, said there is active combat in the area of the settlement, and called the situation “tense” and “dynamic.” 

“Our military holds its position, is in active defense and systematically firing on the enemy,” the 14th Army Corps said. 

Officially, reports of Russian troops’ presence started to appear in June this year. Though authorities noted that combat on the outskirts of the settlement had been happening for months before.

The 14th army corps also added that, since the start of active combat clashes in Kozacha Lopan, Ukraine killed 178 Russian troops and injured another 210. 

Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of Kharkiv oblast, also refuted Putin’s claim of occupation of Kozacha Lopan to Dumka, Kharkiv outlet, adding, as well, that there is combat in the area. 

On Jul. 2, the 225th assault regiment “Skelia” reported they’ve “cleared out” the Derhachi community and “stopped” the assault in Kozacha Lopan, but the situation remained unstable.  

In the assessment from Aug. 28, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on geolocated footage indicating a Russian advance east of Kozacha Lopan along the E-105 Kharkiv—Belgorod highway.
