UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jul. 31 — Thousands of kilometers of fiber-optic cables from Russian first-person view (FPV) drones have accumulated in the forests of the Vovchansk community in northern Kharkiv oblast, the 57th Motorized Brigade said.
According to the military, the fiber-optic cables remain tangled in trees, forming an almost invisible “web” throughout forests. They pollute the environment and can become a deadly trap for animals.
“Ecocide is as much a weapon for Russians against Ukraine as drones are,” the brigade said.
The military also warned that the environmental consequences of this pollution will be felt for years.
The Vovchansk community is located in northern Kharkiv oblast, near the Russian border. Monitoring maps show that a number of its settlements are under Russian occupation, while active fighting continues in others.
