UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jun. 5 — On Jun. 3, Ukrainian forces attacked Russian bridgelayer VMM-3M in the Shebekino-Vovchansk direction, which they tried to use to create a crossing through the Vovcha river, said the 16th Army Corps.
Vovcha is a river that flows through the northern part of Kharkiv oblast, including Vovchansk, a city which was one of the main targets of a Russian offensive in May 2024.
According to the Ukrainian military, Russians planned to build this river crossing for the further deployment of armored and motorized vehicles—to then build up their offensive capabilities in the Vovchansk-Bilyi Kolodiaz direction.
The Russian bridgelayer first struck a minefield. Then, Ukrainian drones attacked the equipment and destroyed the bridgelayer, said the 16th Corps.
Also, this night, Ukrainian drones attacked five ships in the ports of Russian-occupied Mariupol and Berdiansk.
