RUSSIA, BELGOROD, Aug. 4 —  Ukrainian drones attacked the Belgorod State Technological University building, where Russians produced drones and prepared operators for first person view (FPV) drones, reported local Belgorod Telegram channel called Pepel.Belgorod.

Militarnyi, the Ukrainian defense military outlet, identified the site from photographs as the university’s hockey arena. A fire broke out there after the attack.

One of the university’s workers told Vot Tak, an independent Russian-language media outlet, that the training ground was equipped with nets, flight hoops, and other obstacles for training FPV drone operators. He also said that drone production at the university wasn’t large-scale or regular.

The worker also said that, in addition to students, cadets (the term for Russian military personnel stationed on the university campus) live in the dormitory at Belgorod Technological University.

“And the drone training is officially for civilian purposes, of course, in case the military will need those skills to film weddings with drones,” said the worker.

The university itself shared the information about the development of an automated drone control system based on the Russian Milandr microprocessor, designed to improve drones’ resilience to external conditions. But officially, such developments are intended only for civilian use, including monitoring power networks and heating pipelines or aerial photography.
