UKRAINE, IZIUM, Apr 17 — On April 16 evening, the Russian army attacked Izium with Shahed kamikaze drones and a missile, reported the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region.
Izium is a city in the southeast of Kharkiv Oblast, which was occupied in 2022 and has been regularly subjected to Russian attacks since it was liberated during the Kharkiv counteroffensive in September 2022.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, Kharkiv Oblast governor, seven people were injured in the shelling, including a seven-year-old child.
Three houses and a farm building with an area of over 600 square meters caught fire in the Russian attack. The Russians damaged six houses, two outbuildings, and a car.
On the same evening, the Russians hit the car with an unidentified weapon in Oskil village, Izium district, and injured 10 people.
Izium is the city where a mass grave with 448 bodies was discovered after Ukraine deoccupied most of the region. Most of the dead were civilians, with 30 of the bodies bearing clear signs of torture.
Overall, law enforcement in Ukraine investigates over 133,000 cases of Russian war crimes.
