UKRAINE, Feb 23 — Over the past day, Ukrainian defenders captured two Russian soldiers and wounded 302 others. Illia Yevlash, the head of the press service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported on this on the air of the national marathon.
In addition, Illia Yevlash added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 96 pieces of Russian equipment, including two tanks, six infantry fighting vehicles, 12 guns and mortars, 15 vehicles, as well as video surveillance and electronic warfare stations.
In the Lyman-Kupiansk direction, the Russian army conducted 659 attacks, and 19 combat engagements occurred in this area.
The head of the press service noted that the number of Russians in this direction remains unchanged — about 120,000. Russians take up to two or three days to regroup. They are also losing their equipment fast: when an assault group enters a position, the Russian military loses up to 60% of their equipment.
According to Illia Yevlash, the Russians are trying to attack the Chornyi Zherebets River near the village of Terny [a village in Donetsk Oblast — ed.]. Fierce battles are going on there now.
Earlier, the spokesman noted that the Russian army is trying to seize this lodge [near the Chornyi Zherebets River and the village of Terny — ed.] to develop a further offensive toward Kupiansk and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this is the first time Russia has launched an innovative offensive against Kharkiv. The ISW notes that this is a radically different operation compared to others since the full-scale invasion.
