UKRAINE, Sep. 28 — Ukrainian active protection systems for armored vehicles can down between 60% and 80% of Russian first-person view (FPV) drones, Oleksandr Syrskyi, former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told LB.ua, a Ukrainian media-outlet.

According to Syrskyi, both Ukraine and Russia are actively using drones on the frontline, including FPVs. Both countries are developing active protection systems to down these drones and protect their armored vehicles.

“Once these measures are fully developed, the use of armored vehicles will once again become important, and the attack pace will change,” Syrskyi said.

Militarnyi, a Ukrainian defense media outlet, reported that despite these systems’ imperfections, Russia has already begun using them on the frontline. In July, the Russians deployed for the first time a tank equipped with the Arena-M active protection system, which had been upgraded to counter FPV drones.

Journalists reported that the Ukrainian company I-SEE has developed an AI system for detecting drones and is also working on an anti-drone system based on it.
