UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Apr. 22 — Local authorities recorded the most intensive evacuation activity in the Kupiansk district in the Kharkiv oblast. In just two days, almost 200 people have evacuated from there, Oleh Syniehubov told journalists during the briefing.
Syniehubov noted that 167 people were evacuated from the Kupiansk district on Apr. 20 and another 27 people were evacuated yesterday.
The governor said that civilians are more likely to agree to evacuate because of difficult living conditions — lack of water and heat, destroyed infrastructure, and constant Russian attacks. In Kupiansk itself, people continue to live in damaged high-rise buildings with parts of those buildings destroyed by Russian attacks.
According to Syniehubov, the Kupiansk district is one of the most challenging areas for evacuations, and operations there are often conducted with military assistance. In some cases, they plan special operations to evacuate a single person or family.
The evacuation covers not only Kupiansk, but also the surrounding settlements, including the Shevchenkove community and the villages on the right bank of the Oskil river.
On Apr. 15, Kharkiv oblast authorities decided to expand the mandatory evacuation area in the Shevchenkove and Velykyi Burluk communities in the Kupiansk district.
