UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep. 7 — Since May 10, 2024, the Kharkiv regional Emergency Service evacuated 60,081 civilians from the frontline territories in the Kharkiv oblast, said Yevhen Vasylenko, a spokesman for Kharkiv’s State Emergency Service, during the briefing.

On May 10, 2024, Russians launched a second ground offensive north of Kharkiv region, causing a massive wave of displacement from settlements that had been liberated during the Kharkiv counteroffensive in 2022.

Currently, over 90 settlements located in the Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Kupiansk, and Izium districts in northern and eastern parts of the region are also in a mandatory evacuation zone because the security situation is getting worse as Russians keep pushing into the region and expanding ‘kill zone’ of their drones.

According to Vasylenko, rescuers evacuated 5,722 children and 1,998 people with disabilities during this period.

All evacuees received help and psychological support at transit points in Kharkiv and Lozova.

The Emergency Service conducted evacuation missions together with the National police, local government, and volunteers, Vasylenko said.
