Today, by 88 votes in favor, the Riigikogu adopted a statement condemning the annexation of Ukrainian territory and declaring the Russian authorities as a terrorist regime.
In the statement, the Riigikogu harshly criticizes the military actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the illegal annexation of the territory seized in the course of aggression.
The parliament assures that Estonia will never recognize the violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity through aggression and fake referendums.
“It is never possible to reach the truth through offense. Putin’s nuclear threatening regime has made Russia the greatest threat to peace both in Europe and around the world,” said a statement submitted by 85 members of parliament.
The Riigikogu supports the investigations launched by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to clarify the circumstances of the crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine and considers it necessary to hold a trial against those responsible for the crime of aggression in a special international tribunal.
“Supporting the appeal of the Parliament of Ukraine to states and international organizations, the Riigikogu declares the Russian regime as a terrorist and the Russian Federation as a state-sponsor of terrorism, whose actions must be countered together. Riigikogu calls on the international community to adopt similar declarations,” said in a statement.
Recall, Estonia is one of the countries to condemn massive Russian shelling in Ukraine.
