UKRAINE, Jun. 8 — Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian forces have liberated nearly 600 square kilometers (about 230 square miles) of territory, reported Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On May 29, DeepState, an OSINT war monitoring group, reported Ukrainian advances near the village of Novoselivka in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast. According to them, Ukrainian forces recaptured 46 square kilometers (17.8 square miles) of territory along the Oleksandrivske axis, an area that roughly forms a geographic triangle at the junction of the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Syrskyi also said that the difference between territory recaptured by Ukrainian forces and territory gained by Russia in May amounts to nearly 100 square kilometers (about 39 square miles) in Ukraine’s favor.

Syrskyi also said that Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces struck nearly 88,000 Russian targets. He added that Ukrainian drones killed 30,500 Russian soldiers in 2026.

Syrskyi said that the DeepStrike drones attacked 111 Russians defense industry, energy, and fuel infrastructure facilities during May. He added that Ukraine, for the first time, conducted successful air attacks on such facilities located in the Russian capital Moscow and its region.

Direct and indirect Russian economic losses in the aftermath of Ukrainian attacks amounted to approximately $1.058 billion, Commander-in-Chief said.
