UKRAINE, CRIMEA, Jun. 24 — On Jun. 24, the Alpha Group, Ukraine’s Security Service’s (SBU) elite special operations unit, successfully attacked Russian air defense systems and military airfields in Russian-occupied Crimea, the SBU press service reported.
The special forces targeted air defense assets near the Kerch Strait, alongside infrastructure at the Saky and Hvardiiske military airfields, which Russia uses for launching drones targeting mainland Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, the special operation at the Saky military airfield destroyed four aircraft storage hangars.
Additionally, near the city of Kerch, Ukrainian forces struck two components of a Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system, and two Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile-gun systems. This marks the fourth Pantsir-S1 system that the “Alpha” unit has successfully targeted in this area.
The SBU added that Russian forces are losing control over the airspace above Crimea, adding that each destroyed air defense system and damaged airfield creates new opportunities for further strikes on the enemy’s military infrastructure.
This follows an operation on Jun. 22, when Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) targeted a strategic railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal, which connects the peninsula with the occupied Kherson region.
