UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug. 10 — Today, at nearly 11 a.m., Russian forces launched one Bendrol missile and three Shahed drones at Kharkiv’s Kholodnohirskyi, Kyivskyyi, and Slobidskyi districts, damaging two houses, a warehouse, power grids, and a vehicle, reported Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the region. Syniehubov added that the attack didn’t injure anyone.
“Here’s 40 years of my work,” sculptor Katib Mamedov told Gwara journalists at the impact site. The Russian forces destroyed a house near his home, while the blast wave damaged the roof of his house, attic, and sculptures inside and outside.
“There were hundreds of my pieces, from classic style to avant-garde, animalism, and nude,” Mamdov said.
Authorities didn’t disclose the type of munition that hit near Mamedov’s house, but the attack caused a fire in an area of 200 square meters (2,157 feet).
Yevhen Vasylenko, the speaker for Ukraine’s Emergency Service in Kharkiv, said that constant air raid alerts and persistent air threats hampered efforts to extinguish the fire quickly.
“The enemy launched double-tap airstrikes at both Kharkiv and its outskirts. During this period, the firefighters took cover and then returned and continued to fight the fire,” Vasylenko said.
Russian forces began using Banderol missiles against Kharkiv since the summer of 2026, posing a new deadly threat. According to Ihor Terekhov, the city’s mayor, in July Banderol became the most commonly used weapon in attacks on the city.
