UKRAINE, KUPIANSK, Aug. 10 — Ukrainian forces recorded Russian small assault groups in northern parts of the city, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the group of forces responsible for this section of the frontline, to Ukrainian online media Tretia Svitova.

Most of these groups are destroyed “as quickly as they infiltrate,” Trehubov said, but  some of them stay in the city. These groups led assaults from Holubivka village along the Oskil River and then through the forest to the northern districts of Kupiansk.

Also, Russians continue to advance on Kupiansk from the east, moving towards Kindrashivka village and the south, through assaults on the settlement of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.

Kupiansk is an important logistics hub of the Kharkiv oblast. Russian forces have been trying to seize it since Ukrainian forces mostly pushed them out of the city in the winter of 2026.

Trehubov said that the presence of Russian troops advancing from several directions at once allows them to use drones more effectively — in particular, to disrupt Ukrainian logistics. 

“We have been holding them back there for a long time, but this direction poses a threat,” Trehubov said. 

The Kupiansk district is an eastern part of the Kharkiv oblast. Russian forces are attacking settlements in the district every day, with some of them now completely uninhabitable. Recently, local authorities expanded the mandatory evacuation zone there.
