UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug. 7 — On Aug. 7–8, the Some People cultural center will open a new space for independent films and documentaries AUDYTORIYA, Anton Nazarko, the center’s founder, told Gwara Media.

Some People also expect the space to be used for contemporary plays, concerts, and literary events.

Some People itself was founded in Kharkiv, a city that’s about 19 miles from the border with Russia, during the full-scale invasion. In three years, they’ve been  organizing raves, theater performances and hosted educational and interdisciplinary projects.

AUDYTORIYA’s opening night will start at 6:00 p.m. Kyiv time on Aug. 7. Ukrainian artists Nina Eba, Austria-based singer and sound producer, and Irzhik, Kharkiv-based dj, will be performing, and then the space will show the German music drama Rave On, about the club scene in Berlin. 

Building the space took a year and a half, Nazarko said. The Some People team began designing and developing it using their own funds. 

Over time, the project received support from Kharkiv-based businesses, including Yapiko, the Protagonist bar, the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine (House of Europe program), European Endowment for Democracy, and Mercy Corps.
