What’s known about the situation in the Kupiansk district?

On February 20, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that the Russian military keeps shelling border districts of the Kharkiv oblast and continues to storm Ukrainian defenders’ positions on the Kupiansk axis, trying to seize the high ground and occupy Kupiansk as a vital logistical hub. He added that Ukrainian troops restrain the assault of Russian forces in the area and don’t give up their positions.

On February 24, people’s deputy [member of the Ukrainian Parliament — ed.] Oleksandra Ustynova said to Deutsche Welle that the next, after the occupation of Avdiivka, the goal of Russian President Vladimir Putin can become [occupation of] Kupiansk and Kharkiv after that. This could happen if the Western partner won’t increase the aid and Ukraine won’t receive ammunition, longer-range missiles, and promised F-16 fighters.
