UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep. 14 — Ukrainian military maintains position north of Kivsharivka in Kupiansk direction of Kharkiv oblast, despite Russian claims of their advance there, reported Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their Russian campaign assessment from Sep. 13.

According to ISW, geolocation images published on Sep. 12 show the presence of Ukrainian forces in the northern part of Kivsharivka, a settlement to the southeast of Kupiansk.

On Aug. 19, ISW reported that Russians advanced in the eastern part of Kivsharivka, as Russians were in the middle of renewing their offensive on Kupiansk and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Russians started to claim they’d occupied it again back in March.

Kupiansk is an important logistics hub of the Kharkiv oblast. Russian forces have been trying to seize it since Ukrainian forces mostly pushed them out of the city in the winter of 2026.
