UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jul. 2 — Russian forces advanced near Pischane village, located ~13 km (8 miles) southeast of Kupiansk, reported DeepState, an OSINT war monitoring group.

DeepState had previously recorded active Russian advances in this area in April of this year.

Viktor Trehubov, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian forces responsible for the Kharkiv region, said during a national telethon that Russian forces are attempting to advance along the left bank of the Oskil river toward Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, a settlement south of Kupiansk.

Earlier, Trehubov said that Ukrainian forces recorded Russian small assault groups in northern parts of the city, leading assaults from Holubivka village along the Oskil river and then through the forest to the northern districts of Kupiansk.

Kupiansk is an important logistics hub of the Kharkiv oblast. Russian forces have been trying to seize it since Ukrainian forces mostly pushed them out of the city in the winter of 2026.

Trehubov added that heavy rains have covered the Kharkiv oblast in recent days, limiting Ukrainian drone operators’ capabilities. The Russians took advantage of this and intensified their attacks during this period. Most actively, they are attacking in northern Kharkiv oblast and along the Lyman axis.
