The residents of the islands of Saaremaa and Bornholm collected EUR 30,000 for mobile post offices and humanitarian aid for the liberated city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast.

This was reported by the Ukrainian national postal service Ukrposhta.

The inhabitants of the islands wanted to help Izium since its liberation from Russian occupation in autumn.

“We found out that Ukrposhta was practically the only company operating there. Since the post offices had been destroyed, people could only get things delivered with the help of mobile post offices, especially in rural areas,” explained Jaanika Tiitson, the coordinator of the Help Izium campaign on the island of Saaremaa.

Estonian and Danish residents decided to collect funds for five cars for Ukrposhta so that people in the liberated communities could receive and send parcels. The necessary amount was collected at a charity Christmas fair organized by Ukrainians who moved to the island of Saaremaa during the full-scale war.

In January, the cars were already delivered to Ukraine. Along with them came humanitarian aid was handed over, including light bulbs, batteries, heaters, sleeping bags, clothes, thermal underwear, food, stationery, and equipment.

Ukrposhta notes that soon the mobile offices will deliver pensions and essential goods, and provide postal services in Izium and the surrounding villages.

Earlier this month, Kharkiv Oblast received energy generators and humanitarian aid from Ukrainian and international partners.
