UKRAINE, May 22 — Soldiers of the Lava regiment, part of Khartiia Corps, evacuated three wounded soldiers using a single ground drone, said the press service of Khartiia.
Khartiia Corps was formed on the basis of the 13th Khartiia Brigade, which was created in 2022. Currently, Khartiia is operating in the Kharkiv oblast, including north of the region and the Kupiansk axis.
Last year, Khartiia announced the creation of the Lava unmanned systems unit. Lava has become Kharkiia’s first unit that specializes in robotic and unmanned systems. In 2025, Lava already grew to the size of a regiment.
Khartiia said that the Ukrainian military conducted the mission this winter. Despite constant Russian attacks, cold weather, and difficult terrain, they evacuated one soldier in critical condition and two other soldiers with minor injuries.
Evacuees helped the Lava drone operators, protecting the Ukrainian ground drone from Russian drones and cleaning its camera, which became covered in mud and ice along the way.
Khartiia said that the success of such operations is based on “careful planning, clear interaction at every level, the skill of the ground drones operators, and the cool-headedness of the fighters in critical situations.”
Earlier, the Ukrainian military evacuated two civilians from the Vovchansk community with the help of a ground drone.
