RUSSIA, MOSCOW, Sep. 21 — On the night of Sep. 20, Ukrainian forces attacked an oil refinery in Moscow, Russia’s capital, the General Staff of Ukrainian forces reported.

The Moscow oil refinery is also known as the Kapotnya Refinery. It is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, with a capacity of about 12 million metric tons of oil per year. This refinery belongs to the Russian state-owned company Gazprom. The plant supplies Russian forces, the Ukrainian military said.

According to the General Staff, the attack damaged the AVT-6 primary refining unit, an integrated oil refining unit, and an isomerization unit.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, said that Ukrainian forces conducted a massive combined attack on Moscow and the region. Commenting on the attack, he listed the weapons used by Ukrainian forces.

 The media suggested that Ukraine used an FP-7 ballistic missile from FirePoint, formerly known as the Pelican, to attack Moscow. 

But characteristics of the Pelican range show that this weapon has a flight range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles), while the distance to Moscow is 500 kilometers (311 miles).

RBK Ukraine, the Ukrainian media outlet said, citing its sources that the Pelican is, in fact, an aircraft-type drone, not a ballistic missile. No other details about this drone have been disclosed.

Other munitions reportedly used by Ukraine in their attack included FP-1, RZ-100 Morok drones, Lyutyi, and MICH-2000 long-range drones; Vendetta and Sych mid-range drones launched by a larger mother drone; as well as Palyanytsia and Bars jet-drones.
