The State Bureau of Investigation served a suspicion notice to a former law enforcement officer who, during the occupation of Izium, Kharkiv Oblast, obtained a job with the local occupation administration.

The man began negotiating with the Russians immediately after they occupied the city. He managed to bargain his way into the position of head of the department of natural resources and ecology of the local occupation administration. To appease the invaders, he met with locals and persuaded them to work for the enemy, promising that “there are enough positions for everyone.”

He also made an accounting of water objects, looking for the owners of local ponds and lakes to collect “taxes” for himself and the benefit of the occupiers.

After Izium was liberated, he started to hide and was detained in Kharkiv

The former law enforcement officer was notified of being suspected of state treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office carries out procedural supervision.
