UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Apr. 16 — In the morning, a Russian drone hit the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv, a central part of the city, reported the governor Oleh Syniehubov.
The Kharkiv mayor, Ihor Terekhov, said that the drone hit a heavily populated area of the city and caused a fire in an office building. No casualties were reported.
Gwara Media was at the impact site to document the consequences of the Russian attack.
A local man named Andrii said he didn’t hear a loud explosion, just something falling.
“I saw black smoke billowing. I grabbed my dog, and we went out into the yard. This is the city center, a residential area. Who needs this?” said Andrii.
Russians attacked Kharkiv with an Italmas drone, which didn’t explode, but it hit the roof of a three-story office building, said Bohdan Hladkykh, head of the Kharkiv City Council’s Emergency Situations Department, to local media Suspilne Kharkiv.
Hladkykh said the attack caused a fire in an area of about 100 square meters.
“The insulation and roof of the house caught fire. Given that the building is old and has wooden floors, it was difficult to extinguish it,” explained Hladkykh.
In the morning, Russian drones attacked a civilian business in Merefa, a city 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) east of Kharkiv, killing a woman and injuring six people.
