VOVCHANSK, KHARKIV OBLAST, UKRAINE, Dec 28 — The shelling also caused a fire. Russian troops shelled Vovchansk in Chuhuiv district at 10:00 a.m. It was preliminarily with MLRS. The head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported.
“Unfortunately, a 66-year-old woman died at the hospital from the injuries. A 63-year-old resident is also being treated at the scene,” he added.
All services and law enforcement agencies are working at the scene.
Over the past day, Russian troops fired at least 15 settlements in Kharkiv Oblast with artillery and mortars. In Kurylivka, Kupiansk district, a private house and a power line were damaged by shelling.
Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast
The state border has effectively become the front line in the north of the Kharkiv region. The Russian army is shelling the Vovchansk community daily, using guided aerial bombs, S-300 missiles, artillery and mortars. Despite this, people continue to live in such conditions for months, unwilling to leave their homes.
On 24 February 2022, the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces occupied Vovchansk. Due to the Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kharkiv Oblast, the Russian army moved the occupation administration from Kupiansk to Vovchansk. On 13 September 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated the city, a few kilometres from the state border.
