UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, May 11 — Ukrainian forces of the 23rd RUG assault unit, part of 2nd Khartiia Corps, conducted an assault on Russian positions, advancing Russia’s stronghold, said the press service of the RUG unit.

The press service said that foreign volunteers from Latin American countries also took part in the operation.

The RUG soldiers specialize in assault operations, aerial reconnaissance, FPV drone operations, and complex attacks against Russian personnel. It was formed from a battalion that was expanded into an assault regiment within the 2nd Khartia Corps.

The Russians made repeated attempts to regain their lost positions and launched counterattacks, but the unit repelled all of them, RUG unit added.

RUG soldiers carried out a diversionary maneuver to disorient the Russians and stretch their forces. This allowed them to completely clear the area where the combat mission was being carried out, said the press service.

The 2nd Khartiia Corps is actively recruiting foreign volunteers. In April 2025, Khartiia Corps formed a unit composed of foreign volunteers called Guahiro, who have been fighting as part of the corps.

The unit brought soldiers from various continents — from the United States and the United Kingdom to Latin American countries.

Gwara could not independently confirm whether the Latin American volunteers who participated in the RUG assault operation were members of Guahiro.
