According to the environmentalists, the estimated damage caused by the Russian shelling of Kharkiv Central Park on Feb. 7 reaches UAH700 million (~$19 million).

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspection in Kharkiv Oblast.

The inspectors examined the territory of the park and recorded that the Russian rocket damaged the park’s structures, as a result of which the territory was littered with waste, trees were damaged and the parterre lawn was destroyed.

Environmentalists concluded that the area of the littered parkland was 13,000 m2.

“The total amount of damage caused to the state as a result of criminal hostilities, which led to the violation of environmental legislation, reaches UAH754 million (~$20 million),” the State Inspectorate noted.

The Inspectorate has already handed over the relevant materials based on the specified damage calculations to the Prosecutor’s Office in Kharkiv Oblast.

Meanwhile, the Kharkiv toponymic group activists call for renaming the park to “decommunize” it.  Kharkiv Central Park shelled by Russians is still named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky.

On Feb. 7, Russian occupants launched a series of missile attacks on Kharkiv. One of the shells hit the ground in Central Park.
