As of March 2023, 21,550 objects in Kharkiv Oblast were partially or completely destroyed due to Russian aggression.

The regional Department of Architecture and Urban Planning reported this to Ukrainian Radio Kharkiv.

  • 12,620 objects are partially damaged (up to 25%);
  • 6,298 objects were significantly damaged (up to 50%);
  • 2,632 objects were destroyed (up to 100%).

Among the damaged objects are multi-story residential buildings (4091), educational institutions (819), cultural institutions (371), roads (345), healthcare institutions (282), administrative buildings (117), industrial enterprises (70), sports facilities (39), and other objects (8017).

The largest number of damaged buildings is located in Kharkiv and Izium districts.

About 5,200 buildings were damaged due to shelling in Kharkiv, said the first deputy director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services, Oleksii Bohach.

All of the objects passed the first stage of examination. According to the results, 450 buildings have suffered significant damage and require a more detailed study.

Moreover, Bohach reported that more than 50 houses damaged by Russian shelling are being restored in Kharkiv.

According to him, about 200 houses, which received various degrees of damage, were restored in the city last year. Some of them were renovated, while the rest required minor repairs. Moreover, last year, the city helped residents to glaze 75,000 windows.

More than 10 organizations are involved in the restoration of Kharkiv’s housing.

Earlier, a study by the World Bank, United Nations, European Commission, and Ukraine revealed that rebuilding Ukraine’s economy after Russia’s invasion in February 2022 would cost $411 billion.
