RUSSIA, PERM, Aug. 21 — Ukrainian forces attacked one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez, in Perm over 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) from the state border, said the General Staff of the Ukrainian forces.

LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez is one of the country’s leading oil refineries. The plant’s design capacity exceeds 13 million metric tons of oil per year.

The plant refines oil and makes over 60 types of products.

The oil refining depth is about 98 percent, which is among the highest rates at oil refineries in Russia. It is also involved in supplying the Russian military.

According to the General Staff, a fire broke out at the plant.

Militarnyi, a Ukrainian defense news outlet, reported that a drone attack alert was issued in the Perm region this morning. The city’s airport has also stopped working.

Ukrainian drones have already attacked LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez in April, May, and July of this year.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, said that Ukrainian forces also attacked the Marinovka military airfield in the Volgograd oblast of Russia.

He added confirmed results from previous operations, in which Ukrainian forces damaged a Russian Su-34 aircraft at the Akhtubinsk airfield, nearly 600 kilometers from the front line, and attacked a storage and launch site for Russian drones in Primorsko-Akhtarsk, nearly 180 kilometers from the border.
