UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct. 26 — On Oct. 24, Russian forces attacked an Epicenter shopping mall in the Osnovianskyi district, injuring a man and causing a massive fire. A rescuer also got injured while putting the flame out, the State Emergency Service said.
Ihor Terekhov, Kharkiv’s mayor, said it was the last Epicenter still working in the city. In the last two months, the Russian troops have attacked this shopping mall three times. The chain’s other malls were destroyed by their strikes earlier.
In August, a Russian drone attacked this shopping mall, killing one and injuring five people. In September, the Russians attacked it a second time, causing one woman to have an acute stress reaction.
On that day, Russian troops attacked four Epicenter shopping malls in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, and Poltava, the company reported on social media.
This year, Russia has ramped up its tactic of targeting Ukrainian shopping malls within their usual attacks on civilian infrastructure. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, said that such attacks help Russian forces accomplish their combat tasks.
