UKRAINE, Sep. 1 — In a briefing with journalists on Aug. 31, Deputy Minister of Education of Ukraine Mykola Trofymenko said that 27,394 school graduates picked Kharkiv oblast as a place to go to university, reported Ukrainska Pravda, Ukrainian media.
Nearly 69,000 first-years picked Kyiv, 34,000 chose universities in Lviv oblast, and over 17,600 students will study in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the deputy minister added.
Trofymenko pointed out that the universities of three frontline regions are in the top five. “To be accepted there, students were able to use regional coefficients.”
Regional coefficients were implemented in 2025 to encourage students to apply to universities in the frontline regions: they multiply the combined grade a student got on their independent exams, which “increases their chances of getting enrolled.”
Students in most of the universities in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region are studying remotely because of the danger of Russian airstrikes.
