On April 14, 2022, on the second day of the occupation of Borova in Kharkiv Oblast the Russian military fired at two evacuation buses with civilians.

The law enforcement officers managed to find the bodies of nine victims from the bus, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported on Jan. 25.

At that time in April, the local authorities called on the residents to evacuate. A day before the shooting of the motorcade, most of the community with more than 15 thousand inhabitants was occupied. The first information about the motorcade being fired at appeared on April 15.

According to the investigators, the buses were heading to Luhansk Oblast, and the Russians fired at them with heavy machine guns and small arms.

“Currently, the fact of the death of at least nine people has been established: they burned alive in the bus. It was also found out that 13 people have escaped,” the investigators say.

All the dead were buried by a resident of Borova in May, and on Jan. 24, 2023, prosecutors together with investigators of the State Security Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast conducted an exhumation.
