TURKEY, ANKARA, Jul. 8 — Donald Trump, the United States President, said that the US may give a license for Ukraine to produce Patriot air defense systems. He said this during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, reported CNN.
The Russian night attack on Jul. 6 succeeded because Ukraine did not have the capacity to intercept Russian ballistic missiles, though it was able to shoot down almost all drones and cruise missiles, said Zelenskyy.
“A little birdie told me this, about the fact that we’ll give them the right to make Patriots. We’ll show them how to do it,” said Trump gesturing at Zelenskyy.
The US President did not specify whether he was referring to the entire system or only to the missiles.
Zelenskyy noted that the US and Ukraine will begin cooperation under the Drone Deal. “It’s a very good beginning,” he says.
Back in March, the Ukrainian President said he would like to sign a deal with the US about cooperation on drone production worth approximately 35–50 billion dollars.
CBS News said, referring to its sources, that Ukraine and the US have drafted a memorandum outlining the terms of future defense cooperation. It provides for the creation of a joint manufacturing of drones and the possibility of exporting Ukrainian military technologies to the US market.
