UKRAINE, KYIV, Jul. 14 — Ukraine’s parliament, known as Verkhovna Rada, dismissed Yulia Svyrydenko, Prime Minister, and her government, clearing a way for the reshuffle of Ukrainian ministries.
Svyrydenko became prime minister on Jul. 15, 2025, after Denys Shmyhal resigned and later joined her government as defense minister.
After Svyrydenko’s appointment, critics described her as a protégé of Andrii Yermak, the former head of the Presidential Office and one of the most powerful political figures in Ukraine during Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presidency.
But within days of a major anti-corruption scandal, in which National Anti-Corruption Bureau charged Yermak with money laundering, Svyrydenko quickly distanced herself from him, reported the Kyiv Independent.
Under Svyrydenko, Ukraine went through its harshest winter since the beginning of Russia’s full- scale invasion, as every region of the country faced power and heat shortages caused by Russian attacks amid extreme cold.
However, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, blamed local authorities, especially Vitalii Klychko, the Kyiv’s mayor, for insufficient preparedness of the Ukrainian cities for the winter.
In 2026, during the Svyrednko’s tenure, the European Union opened the first EU accession negotiation cluster and secured a 90-billion-euro loan package for Ukraine.
Now, Serhii Koretskyi, the CEO of Naftogaz, the state-owned oil and gas company is expected to become the next prime minister.
On Jul. 12, Zelenskyy said that he offered Svyrydenko to lead the cooperation with Ukraine’s “key partner.”
Despite the rumors about Svyrydenko’s possible appointment as the new Ambassador in the US, the sources of Ukrainian Pravda, Ukrainian independent media outlet, said that she refused from this position.
