RUSSIA, SAMARA OBLAST, Aug. 19 — The attack of Ukrainian forces damaged the engine manufacturing workshop for the Soyuz expendable carrier rocket and the aircraft maintenance workshop at the Aviakor aviation plant at the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Russia, said the General Staff of the Ukrainian forces.
On Aug. 15, Vyacheslav Fedoryshchev, governor of the Samara oblast, reported an attack on one of the region’s industrial plants, but did not disclose what facility was under attack. Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that Ukrainian forces targeted the Progress missile plant.
Data from the General Staff recorded a fire at a workplace covering about 5,000 square meters (53,820 square feet).
The Progress Rocket and Space Center is one of the key enterprises in the industry. The company’s products are used to launch spacecraft into orbit and deploy Russian communications satellite systems for the Russian military.
Striking such targets reduces the Russian military and technological capabilities, the General Staff added.
