The number of international students in Kharkiv universities decreased by almost 40% – 12,165 foreign students from 102 countries study at city universities as of Jan. 1, 2023.
This was reported to Ukrainian Radio Kharkiv by the deputy of the regional Department of Science and Education, Olha Alforova.
The number of foreign students who chose to study at one of the 21 Kharkiv universities decreased this academic year. Last year, 19,983 international students from 110 countries got an education in Kharkiv. Due to the Russian war against Ukraine, Kharkiv university students now learn online.
According to the regional Department of Science and Education, the largest number of students studying in Kharkiv in 2023 are from India (2787), Morocco (2097), Azerbaijan (1455), and Turkey (912).
“In the 2022/2023 academic years, the largest number of foreign citizens was enrolled at the Kharkiv National Medical University — 374 people, and at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” — 208 people,” said Alforova.
