The traditional American film festival in Mill Valley awarded MVFF45 “The Power of Cinema” to Evgeny Afineevsky for his film “Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”.
In addition, the film won the Brizzolara Family Foundation Award for films about conflicts and solutions.
“Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom” premiered on September 7 at the Venice Film Festival, where the director received the Movie for Humanity award, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reported.
The filmmaker’s new work shows the terrible events that Ukrainians are experiencing during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Founder and Director of MVFF Mark Fishkin said that “Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom” is a message to the world that all measures must be taken to prevent further human tragedies.
According to Evgeny Afineevsky, during five months of war, he managed to gather a team of 43 cameramen and 9 editing directors. Dozens of people took part in the shooting of the film, and more than a hundred were interviewed.
“Now I also have the same goal – to bring the film “Freedom on Fire” to the screens at the speed of light. To make it possible for the whole world to see this war”, – the director said in an interview to Ukrainska Pravda.
“Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom” is a documentary film directed by American Evgeny Afineevsky with the assistance of Netflix. The film is a sequel to the film “Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Struggle for Freedom”.
Recall that the streaming service Netflix will buy 14 Ukrainian films, reports Forbes referring to two sources from Film.ua Group, the largest vertically integrated group of companies in the field of film and television production in Eastern Europe.
