Kharkiv residents, who actively promoted the idea of Kharkiv becoming part of the Russian Federation on social media, will be tried.

The Nemyshlyansky District Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv approved and submitted to the court an indictment against a 64-year-old man who posted in support of the Russian Federation on his page on the banned social network Odnoklassniki.

The investigation revealed that in one of his posts, the Kharkiv resident wrote that his city had never been part of Ukraine and that Kharkiv had no intention of becoming part of the Ukrainian state:

“It is not for nothing that the Russian Bolsheviks began their advance into mainland Ukraine through Kharkiv. They made Kharkiv the first capital of Ukraine. We know that the Donetsk and Kryvyi Rih Republic was established in Kharkiv after the revolution. The people of Kharkiv did not even think about becoming part of Ukraine, because Kharkiv has never been Ukraine! Kharkiv is not about Ukraine!”

A forensic examination confirmed the illegality of his actions.

The suspected man will be tried in the Dzerzhynskyy District Court of Kharkiv. According to the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until a court passes a guilty verdict.
