The Security Service of Ukraine exposed an FSB agent network in Kharkiv due to a special operation, Vladyslav Abdula, a spokesman for the SSU Office in Kharkiv region, reported.
Law enforcement agencies found that the group of three Kharkiv residents collected data on the locations and movements of the Defense Forces in Kharkiv region.
According to the investigation, the suspects were trying to identify the directions of redeployment of the Armed Forces units involved in the counteroffensive of Ukrainian troops on the eastern front. They were interested in the routes of movement and temporary storage points for foreign weapons and ammunition of the Defense Forces.
Locals provided the information to the Russian Federal Security Service via Telegram, and the occupiers then used it to prepare and conduct massive missile attacks on Kharkiv using Russian Smerch and Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems.
SSU officers detained the residents while they were performing this work. The investigation revealed that they had been recruited for secret cooperation by an FSB officer at the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion. Among those recruited was a former teacher at a local military educational institution.
Ukrainian intelligence found phones and computers with evidence of correspondence with the aggressor.
Based on the information collected, SSU investigators served the detainees a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). Each of them has been detained without the right to be released on bail. The suspects face life imprisonment.
