UKRAINE, DONETSK OBLAST, Oct. 28 — A Russian first-person view (FPV) drone killed Jesse Adams, Canadian volunteer, while he was evacuating animals from the Donetsk region, reported volunteer group Rescue Kharkiv. .

Adams founded RainCost Dog Rescue Society, an organization aimed to rescue and rehoming animals. In Ukraine, he helped evacuate dogs and cats from frontline communities. At the same time, he provided assistance to locals living in areas affected by Russia’s invasion.

Days before his death, Adams wrote on Instagram that volunteers had rescued 80 dogs and cats in a single day in Kramatorsk, a city in the Donetsk region.

“These poor animals don’t understand what war is. They are simply innocent victims of another country’s invasion of Ukraine. Every single day, more civilians and animals are killed or injured by drone attacks, bombings and missile strikes,” Adams wrote.

On Oct. 25, Adams was preparing another group of animals for evacuation. Shortly after he loaded animals into his vehicle, a Russian drone hit its windshield, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately taken to a local hospital. Doctors performed surgery but, despite their efforts, Adams died from his injuries.

“We extend our deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Jesse. We are grateful for the time we spent with him, for His courage and every life he helped us save,” Rescue Kharkiv wrote.

Earlier, a Russian glide bomb killed Olha Kuzemnko, an animal rescue volunteer, in the city of Drizhkivka in the Donetsk region.
