The 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee was to be held in summer 2022 in Kazan, according to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

Ukraine, together with its partners among UNESCO Member States, initiated the issue of preventing the session from being hosted by the aggressor state and depriving Russia of its chairmanship in the Committee.

Although the terrorist state continues to be a member of the Committee, its role is minimized.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the participants of the 215th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO to exclude Russia from the organization and include the center of Odesa in the World Heritage List.
