UKRAINE, Sep. 30 — Russia conducted a massive attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the region for the first time since the last heating season ended, Serhii Koretskyi, Ukraine’s prime minister, said.

According to Koretskyi, over the past day, Russian forces attacked 11 regions in Ukraine, hitting energy infrastructure, residential buildings, social infrastructure, civilian businesses, and railway infrastructure. The attacks killed five and injured 14 people.

Monitor, a Telegram channel tracking Russian attacks, said that Russian forces used Zircon and Oniks cruise missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles, and over 100 jet-powered Shahed drones to attack energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the region this night.

Ukrenergo, the National power company, confirmed Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system — energy workers have already begun mitigating the damage.

During the attack, Russians damaged power generation equipment of the Trypilska thermal power plant located near Kyiv. The plant supplies the majority of regions in central Ukraine.

Also, a Russian attack on the Kharkiv oblast left the Mala Danylivka community and Derhachi city, settlements north of Kharkiv, without electricity.
