UKRAINE, Jun. 30 — Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, presented state posthumous awards to five Kharkiv rescuers who were killed in Russian double-tap strike on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv, said Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv oblast.
On Jun. 15, Russians attacked the industrial area in the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv twice. The first attack caused a fire in civilian business territory. A few hours later, while a group of rescue workers was extinguishing the fire, Russians launched a second missile strike, killing four emergency workers. The fifth rescuer, Mykola Derkach, died in the hospital three days later.
Apart from Derkach, Zelenskyy awarded Dmytro Boiko, Vadym Zinchenko Serhii Makovetskyi, and Danylo Tishchenko with the Order for Courage of the Third Class.
This award is given to individuals for bravery and heroism during rescuing other people or material goods during emergencies and other situations, in which their own lives are in danger.
Also, the President awarded Maksym Brytik, Ruslan Novokhatskyi, Ihor Shkatov, and Oleksandra Shchebilova, also from the Kharkiv garrison of the State Emergency Service.
