On Nov. 10, the Vienna House of Artists (Künstlerhaus Wien) will open an exhibition of Ukrainian artists about the “irresistible will to live, even under tragic circumstances”.
This was reported by The Village Ukraine.
The exhibition is called Contrapunct and, according to the organizers, symbolizes the contrasting concepts: war and peace, life and death. In this context, they also mention “biophilia”, passionate love of life, as defined by Erich Fromm, as well as “cordocentrism”, which is the philosophy of the heart.
The exhibition will feature the works of Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Himey, Gera Artemova, Sana Shahmuradova, Olha Shtein, Halyna Andrusenko, Mykola Bilous, and other Ukrainian artists. It is supervised by Yana Barinova, the former Director of the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration, and current Development Officer at Vienna Contemporary (VC).
According to Barinova, the goal of the exhibition is to use art to reflect the emotional truth about the war, as well as to encourage the viewers to contribute to the achievement of peace in Ukraine, Europe, and the world.
The exhibition was created together with Spilne Art Gallery and Tsekh Gallery. It will continue from Nov. 10 to 27 at Karlsplatz 5, 1010.
Earlier this month, the fifth triennial of modern Ukrainian art “Ukrainian Cross-Section. Ukraine! Unmuted” opened in Kaunas, Lithuania.
