UKRAINE, Oct 2— The Demining Capabilities Coalition member countries have agreed to purchase pickup trucks worth €22 million to support the needs of the State Special Transport Service and the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Demining Capabilities Coalition is an association of about 20 countries. Lithuania announced the coalition’s creation in July 2023 to help clear Ukrainian territory of mines left by Russian troops.
Lithuania is allocating €15 million and Sweden is committing €7 million to purchase demining equipment for Ukraine.
On October 1, the Ministry of Defense reported that in September, the pyrotechnics of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine demined 21,676 hectares on deoccupied territories, more than 98% of which were agricultural land.
In September, 1,029 people, comprising 236 groups, were involved in demining, using 15 mechanical demining vehicles.
