Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine, met with Peter Gelb, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera, during her visit to New York in September. The meeting resulted in the involvement of Ukrainian artists in contemporary world projects, the State agency for arts and art education reported.

The Metropolitan Opera will contract a contemporary Ukrainian composer to create an opera. The theater will create all conditions for the successful implementation of this project.

The opera project will be another demonstration of the theater’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The promotion of Ukrainian contemporary music through the commissioning of works and the possible further project implementation on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera is an opportunity to bring Ukrainian narratives to the world.

The theater will conduct a selection of Ukrainian composers. After finalizing the participants, it will provide financial support to the team of composers and librettists to create a vocal score for the piano. The Metropolitan Opera will also provide a master class with singers when the vocal score is ready and its performance.
