KHARKIV, UKRAINE, May 2 — Around 10:20 a.m. on May 1, the Russian army hit the Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of Kharkiv with airstrikes. There were no casualties.
There is information that the Russians shelled the city with the UMPB D30-SN modified glide bombs, hitting a windbreak in the Shevchenkivskyi district. In the Kyivskyi district, the Russians hit the private residential sector.
“15 private houses were damaged. They have different degrees of destruction. In general, the civilian infrastructure of the city was damaged. There were no military personnel here. Now our utility companies (Kharkivoblenergo and Miskgaz) are working here because the gas pipeline was cut off due to the shelling,” commented Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Volunteers along with city workers are helping to cover the damaged houses to avoid looting.
One of the private sector residents said that she, her son, and her grandmother were in the house at the time of the explosion. Suddenly, they heard a loud explosion that made them jump to the floor.
“A whistle — and then, just after two seconds, and [the bomb] hits. Windows opened, glasses blown out. I look up and see a pillar of dust,” the woman says. Windows, the front door, a chandelier, and technical fixtures in the bathroom were blown out of her house.
