Russian army continues its offensive around the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna axis and has reportedly advanced, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The main goal of Russia in this part of the frontline is to capture the rest of Luhansk region and advance to the east of Kharkiv and the north of Donetsk region.

Analysts, citing Russian military bloggers, note that Russian troops have advanced 1 km near Yahidne (22 km southeast of Kupiansk). It is also claimed that the aggressor country’s army has also advanced near Synkivka (8 km northeast of Kupiansk), Ivanivka (20 km southeast of Kupiansk) and Kotlyarivka (22 km southeast of Kupiansk).

On 7 October, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops had launched unsuccessful attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka in Kharkiv region and Makiivka in Luhansk region (60 km southwest of Kupiansk and about 22 km northwest of Kreminna).

According to ISW, units of the Russian 79th Motorised Rifle Regiment (18th Guards Motorised Rifle Division, 11th Army Corps, Baltic Fleet) began to approach the frontline east of Ivanivka (28 km north-east of Kupiansk) and Velyka Vyselka (23 km north-east of Kupiansk).

The Russian military command has deployed at least two battalion-sized combined tactical units consisting of Storm-Z companies.

It is known that Russian troops have also concentrated elements of the Russian 448th Missile Brigade (20th Guards Combined Arms Army, Western Military District), 9th Guards Artillery Brigade (6th Combined Arms Army, Western Military District), 45th High-Powered Rocket Artillery Brigade (Western Military District) in this area of the front, 244th Artillery Brigade (11th Army Corps, Baltic Fleet), 288th Artillery Brigade (1st Guards Tank Army, Western Military District) and 147th Guards Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (2nd Guards Motorised Rifle Division, 1st Guards Tank Army, Western Military District) in this direction. The observer added that the next Russian offensive in the direction of Kupyansk is likely to involve units of the 138th Motorised Rifle Brigade (6th AC, Western Military District), the 1st Guards Motorised Rifle Regiment (2nd Guards Motorised Rifle Division, 1st Guards Tank Army, Western Military District) and the 15th Motorised Rifle Regiment (2nd Guards Army, Central Military District).
